24–27th January

The World Cup on Snow is one of Europe’s top polo fixtures, taken very seriously by those taking part – and those watching. For one weekend a year, the lake of St Moritz becomes a 10-inch-thick ice playing field, where four teams from around the world battle it out for the prestigious Cartier Trophy.

For high-energy sport in dramatic surroundings and of course a little social networking this is a must

22–25th May

The Monaco circuit is one of only a handful of street races left on the F1 calendar. The route, round which the fast and the furious speed 78 times, hugs the marina’s edge before leading drivers past an array of the city’s landmarks.

17–21th June

Royal Ascot, a five-day event with 30 races and a total prize pot of £3.5million, is a horseracing spectacular. Not just the preserve of the rich and famous, Ascot has been getting people dressed-up in their finery for over 300 years.

This is definitely worth a visit not just for the horses, but for the hats too.

02–06th July

While rowing is supposed to be the focus of this event, there is little doubt that it’s actually just a really great place to have a glass of Champagne or Pimm’s. And if you are interested in the rowing, this is top-notch stuff too, with some of the best clubs in the UK and beyond competing.
